CARLETON COLLEGE WEITZ CENTER FOR CREATIVITY

NORTHFIELD, MN

Northfield’s old middle school was purchased and renovated by Carleton College for their art and media studies programs

PROJECT INFORMATION

Carleton College’s Weitz Center for Creativity opened in 2011 after a generous donation from the Weitz Family that transformed Northfield’s old middle school to be used by Carleton College. The middle school was built in 1910, and the historic building was adapted, expanded, preserved, and repurposed for the college. This nearly 130,000 square foot facility is home to the college’s studio art and media studies disciplines with classrooms, performance spaces, and a creative laboratory. The Weitz Center for Creativity is LEED Gold Certified and was flexibly designed for future expansion.

PROJECT SCOPE

MG McGrath worked with McGough Construction and MSR Design to fabricate and install over 10,000 square feet of Dri-Design metal cladding for the exterior of the new Weitz Center for Creativity. Also provided and installed by our team was 450 square feet of louvers, horizontal hat channels, insulation and Z-furring.
