WEISMAN ART MUSEUM

MINNEAPOLIS, MN

The museum is named after Frederick R. Weisman, a Minneapolis native who was passionate about art and philanthropy that largely funded the museum

PROJECT INFORMATION

World renowned Architect Frank Gehry designed the museum in 1993 as a permanent home for art on the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities Campus in Minneapolis. Frank Gehry also designed the museum’s addition in 2011 which included the construction of five new galleries. This included 8,100 square feet of space for exhibits on American art, photography, ceramics, and works of art on paper. The WAM is home to many pieces of art with an emphasis on hosting pieces of cultural, historical, and social relevant contexts. In addition to art exhibits, the museum also hosts tours, symposiums, public events, and educational opportunities. The U of M is largely involved with the museum and takes a collaborative approach with the WAM to present art and ideas in a multi-disciplinary way

PROJECT SCOPE

MG McGrath was in charge of fabricating and installing the metal paneling for the new addition on the Weisman Museum. Our team worked with Frank Gehry, HGA Architects & Engineers, and JE Dunn Construction on this project. The new addition was designed to mimic the look of the existing museum and carried over it’s terra-cotta colored brick and stainless steel metal façade. Our team fabricated 24gauge stainless steel metal into our own custom F-Seam (flush seam) metal panel system that we then installed on the exterior of the Weisman Art Museum addition spaces
