ST. KATHERINE'S UKRAINIAN CHURCH

ARDEN HILLS, MN

The number and shape of the domes reflect historical, religious, Ukrainian architecture of the 17th-century

PROJECT INFORMATION

St. Katherine’s Ukrainian Church was designed and built in a 17-century Ukrainian style of architecture common for religious buildings of this time period. The traditional, iconic style and shape of the church domes were originally designed to prevent snow accumulation, and are now a distinctive feature on many Ukrainian churches. The five domes symbolize the five prominent religious figures of the Eastern Orthodox faith. The building about 4000 square feet including a plaza, narthex, choir area and can accommodate about 200 worshipers.  It is 90 feet to the top of the cross on the central cupola.  Exterior materials are white stucco with precast art stone trim. The cupolas of the church and the roofs of the parish hall are standing seam copper and the interior design makes good use of natural light
