ORCHESTRA HALL
MINNEAPOLIS, MN
Orchestra Hall first opened in 1974 and is home to the Minnesota Orchestra. This LEED certified building continues to be a central hub for musical performances of every kind in Minnesota
PROJECT INFORMATION
As one of the most stately music venues, Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, recently got a much needed modern face-lift, as the exterior of the hall underwent a major $50 million renovation that finished in 2013. While the changes to the interior and the glorious auditorium itself will are far more subtle, the outside of the 38-year-old Orchestra Hall got a fresh, exciting upgrade that boldly brought the aging building into the 21st Century while anchoring the corner of 11th Street and Nicollet Mall well into the future. Throughout Orchestra Hall’s new light-filled lobby, floor-to-ceiling windows reaching 55 feet reveal a never-before-seen view of the hall’s urban setting. The renovated lobby replaces a 1970s-era structure that could only accommodate 900 people, even though the auditorium could seat 2,450. The new lobby is double the size of the original and more accessible. Despite its grandeur, the new six-story glass and granite lobby has a warmth and intimacy, created by acoustic wood paneling and carved-out meeting places on the multilevel mezzanines and balconies that jetty out above the lobby below
PROJECT SCOPE
MG McGrath fabricated and installed 2,390 square feet of Aluminum Plate Panels in a custom color gun barrel with a smooth finish. The Aluminum Plate Panels were installed on both the east and west entrance canopies
