PROJECT INFORMATION

In 2011, the University of South Florida (USF) board of trustees approved a $35.5 million renovation of their Sun Dome Arena, which has since been renamed the Yuengling Center. This is USF’s primary indoor multi-purpose arena which has 55,000 square feet of space to host basketball and volleyball sporting events for the university, local concerts, and community events. Originally built on the main USF campus in 1977, the arena was overdue for some updates. Plans for the renovation included a reconfigured seating structure, updates to become ADA compliant, a new center scoreboard, restored existing exterior concrete, and added concessions and restrooms. After the renovation project, all of the updates and upgrades earned the arena a LEED Silver certification from the USGBC.

SURFACES PROJECT SCOPE

Our team fabricated and installed nearly 5,000 square feet of metal paneling for this arena which  included 1,000 square feet of 22ga. Centria IW-10A metal rainscreen panels with a flush-seam profile, concealed fasteners, and a smooth custom green finish. The largest portion of metal work on this project from our team was fabricating and installing 3,850 square feet of 6mm Reynobond composite metal canopies for the entrances and ticket windows. These canopies were all made from our own wet-set panel system with a Classic Green finish.

GLASS & GLAZING PROJECT SCOPE

MG McGrath fabricated and installed a number of glass and glazing systems for the arena renovation including nearly 3,000 square feet of exterior YKK storefront framing with Interstate Green finishing and Viracon fully tempered glass. On the interior, our team provided and installed 1,000 square feet of storefront framing in a clear anodized finish. The last bit of glass work by our team included installing 62 YKK heavy duty doors throughout the interior and exterior of the arena.
