U.S. LAND PORT OF ENTRY
CALAIS, ME
If you cross the border from Canada to Maine, you will likely be passing through this Border Patrol Station designed to embody the spirit of the United States
PROJECT INFORMATION
This border patrol station is the port of entry between Canada and Maine. The port sits on a 53-acre site that features over 100,000 square feet of building space and is large enough to handle roughly 3,300,000 vehicles a year. This highly secure government facility has a main administration building with canopies and a passenger lobby, detention cells, administrative and staff services, three primary inspection bays, secondary enclosed inspection garages, and even a six-lane firearms certification range. The design of this new entry port was meant to act as an open door to the country. The façade was meant to be a visual representation of the strength and dignity of our Federal Government while still embodying the secure and welcoming spirit of the United States. The entire project cost roughly $64 million and is LEED Gold Certified
PROJECT SCOPE
MG McGrath worked with J & J Contractors and Robert Siegel Architects to assist in the design and creation of the building’s metal mesh façade enclosure. Our team fabricated and installed over 40,000 square feet of a custom expanded metal mesh wall cladding system. The façade features .080” stamped profile aluminum with offset diamond-shaped expanded openings. The expanded aluminum mesh system also included aluminum back panels and a clear anodized finish. The panels were fastened to an exposed framing system which consisted of a 4” X 7” extruded aluminum tube frame grid
