"THE WAVE" WIND VEIL AT TARGET FIELD
MINNEAPOLIS, MN
This beautiful art installation is the perfect welcome piece as you walk to the entrance of Target Field for a Twins MLB game
PROJECT INFORMATION
“The Wave” is a giant kinetic sculpture and wind veil was designed by artist Ned Kahn of Sebastopol, California. It forms a backdrop for the plaza of Target Field and covers the entire length of the B parking ramp next to the MLB stadium. Each of the little metal tiles in Kahn’s design was specifically sized and laid out to achieve it’s wave-like effect as air passes through it. The sculpture is backlit at night by LED lights to create an even more mesmerizing view of the sculpture’s movement
PROJECT SCOPE
This beautiful wind veil sculpture is made up of over 51,000 individual pieces spanning 285 feet wide and 60 feet high. Our team was in charge of fabricating and installing each of the 9,000+ metal tiles in the sculpture wall that are made up of .125” aluminum plate material with a clear anodized finish. For the fabrication process, each piece was cut out of Ryerson aluminum plate material to be about 4” x 5” sized rectangles and were designed to look like baseball cards. The folded metal curls on the top/back of each aluminum tile had to be exact, because small plastic grommets inside the curl were used to attach the panels to cables
