MACALESTER COLLEGE MARKIM HALL
ST. PAUL, MN
Macalester College’s Markim Hall is home to the Institute For Global Citizenship (IGC)

PROJECT INFORMATION
Macalester College in St Paul built Markim Hall in 2009 as the home for the Kofi Annan Institute For Global Citizenship (IGC). This building houses a diverse range of programs that fuse local and global connections to educate and encourage everyone to relate to each other in an equitable and compassionate way. Markim Hall was the first higher-education project in Minnesota to be LEED Platinum Certified, and one of the first in the nation. LEED Platinum is the highest certification level for energy efficiency handed out by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The hall uses 80% less electricity than traditional campus buildings, and cut water consumption to similar projects by nearly 50%.
SURFACES PROJECT SCOPE
Working on the IGC was our first job for Macalester College. Our team fabricated and installed a variety of metal panel materials and styles for this project that would all contribute to their LEED Platinum Certification goals. The main entrance to Markim Hall has a gorgeous 16oz copper archway done by our team. It features 3,500 square feet of copper material in our own hook-seam panel system. The back courtyard area of the hall has 8mm zinc cladding in a similar hook-seam panel style with a Graphite Grey finish. Various exterior elevations also have 4,500 square feet of aluminum plate panels fabricated and installed with a clear anodized finish. The last bit of work our team did for this building was installing vertical louvers and standard metal sunshades from Industrial Louvers.
