MG McGrath. Inc.’s, Elmer Holmes Bobst Library at New York University was also named on Glass Magazine’s Notable Project List. MG McGrath fabricated and installed ¼-inch-thick perforated aluminum screens incorporating five patterns. The patterns repeat through each elevation, making it nearly impossible to discern, say company officials. The tile screens are installed on a custom aluminum tube/mullion that is fastened to the floor below the carpet and fastened on a floating clip that is concealed in the plaster soffit so the floors can move and deflect under live loads. They were cut with a waterjet using “direct to fabrication” from the CATIA model. The project had an extremely tight schedule and was all performed at night while the library was closed. The biggest challenge was getting the materials to floors up to 135 feet in the air using three hoists.
