Park Nicollet Health Services’ Methodist Hospital is close to wrapping up an $11 million renovation of its birth center, a project it expects will create a better environment for families and boost patient traffic. The St. Louis Park hospital began planning the renovation in 2011 with the goal of creating an “optimal healing environment” for expectant moms, said Clinical Nursing Director Katherine Todd, whose doctoral work focused on healing design and integrative health. -Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal
The project created four water-birth suites to accommodate rising demand. Methodist reduced the center’s total number of rooms by four. However, it expanded the birth center’s postpartum suites to make room for families to stay overnight and added amenities like breastfeeding recliners and fridges. The renovation’s design incorporates a nature theme into patient rooms and hides intimidating high-tech equipment behind furniture-like features. -Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal
