Pretty much everything about the Radisson Blu hotel project at the Mall of America was tight: the financing, the site, the safety precautions and accommodations for the mall’s daily business. Financing the 500-room hotel and 666 parking spaces proved very tricky, according to Tom Lander, vice president of Golden Valley-based Mortenson Development. The city of Bloomington used $14.5 million in tax increment financing bonds for the parking structure; Hennepin County provided $40 million in federal stimulus money; construction trades pension funds put in another $40 million; and the Carlson organization put up $40 million in equity. On the interior of the building MG McGrath fabricated and installed the Custom 3 Dimensional Krion Wall that is the focal point of the lobby.
