MG McGrath Architectural Surfaces and MG McGrath Architectural Glass and Glazing’s recently completed Florida Polytechnic University Project was named ENR Southeast’s 2014 Building Project of the Year. Florida Polytechnic University was also a 2014 recipient of the ENR Southeast’s Best Projects Awards in two categories: Higher Education/Research and Specialty Contracting. Florida Polytechnic University is Florida’s first STEM-focused college, marked its formal opening and the beginning of the 2015 school year on August 15, 2014. The Innovation, Science and Technology (IST) Building that is the centerpiece of the campus was designed by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava and built by Skanska, as part of a collaborative team of numerous design and construction partners.
“When fully open and upright, the 94 operable louver arms atop Florida Polytechnic University’s $60-million Innovation Science and Technology building seem to salute in unison the birth of the nation’s newest engineering school. Perched together in synchronous harmony, the aluminum wing-like structures stand not only as a testament to a soaring architectural vision, but also to the builders who were able to realize without compromise Santiago Calatrava’s dramatic concept for the two-story, 300,000-gross-sq-ft building.” -ENR Southeast
